The appearance of the face involves balance of the features - particularly the nose, the chin and the cheek bone. If one of these is out of proportion with other, the imbalance can have an impact of confidence and self-esteem. A protruding chin can be reduced by removing some of the bone and a recessive chin can be built out with fillers or either by sliding the chin forwards or by inserting an implant on the bone. These operations are usually performed through a cut made in between the lower lip and the gum. If an implant is used, the surgeon may advise that the cut is made in the natural crease under the chin.
